Early and desirable 1970s Biba sequin jacket in superb vintage condition. The jacket is very slim cut with Art Deco influenced tailoring. There are no fastenings or lapels so this is a type of swing jacket which clings and hugs the body. With all-over copper sequinned embellishment, there is a small padded insert to the puff sleeved shoulder with tapered sleeves toward the cuff. Lined in a corresponding copper polyester jersey.
This piece really belongs in a serious collection or museum and is just as wearable today as it was over 50 years ago. This dark gold fabric label was the second Biba label and only in use from 1970 to 1972. It has been in our collection for many years as we have not wish to part with it! All original vintage Biba sizing runs small and this is most suitable now for a UK size 6-8, US size 0-2 with a good element of stretch. From a styling viewpoint, a ribbon or loop button closure could work to provide some coverage across the bust or lower down to create a single breasted blazer.
Condition wise, this is in excellent vintage condition and is well preserved. No missing sequins; some minor mottling to the sequin coatings commensurate with age.
